We take pride in our knowledgeable staff of ASE® Certified machinists and parts professionals, many of whom have been with us over 30 years. We stock a wide variety of name brand engine parts to cover most domestic and import vehicles. We also specialize in heavy duty engines and parts, as well as high performance applications. Our 22,000 square foot shop is fully-equipped to handle any engine rebuilding operation. We use quality equipment such as Rottler boring bars, Sunnen cylinder and align hones, a Serdi cylinder head center, Berco crankshaft grinders and align bore machine, Stewart Warner balancer, and Magnaflux testing.

Our Company History

1946 - Just back from serving in the South Pacific with the Third Marine Division during WWII, our founder, Jim Ratteree Sr. began his career in the automotive business. He took the position of crankshaft grinder operator at the John Rogers Company, a production engine rebuilder, on West Peachtree Street in Atlanta, Georgia. Jim quickly advanced to the position of shop foreman over the crankshaft department.

1961 - Jim ventured out and began Southern Precision Machinery in College Park, Georgia in his newly constructed 6,000 sq. ft. shop. SPM specialized in reconditioning and reselling automotive engine rebuilding equipment. In addition, Jim was a sales representative for the Van Norman Corporation, manufacturers of engine rebuilding equipment. During this period, Jim also developed and patented a brake drum adapter, a device used to center brake drums through the lug holes, instead of the center hole, for more accurate machining. SPM sold thousands of these adapters throughout the 60’s and 70's.

1973 - After Jim had accumulated enough equipment and employees to operate a complete engine rebuilding machine shop, he began rebuilding engines and selling internal engine parts. At that time, the decision was made to rename the company to Automotive Precision Machinery or APM, as we are known today.

1982 - Jim’s youngest son, Charlie, now the company president, began his career at APM starting out in the crankshaft department.

1983 - APM relocated to Forest Park, Georgia, just about a mile from our original shop. We designed and built a brand new 22,000 sq. ft. facility, where we are still located today.

2002 - APM began developing an Internet presence by selling engines, parts, and machinery through eBay and our own online store.

2006 - APM branched out with a 5,000 sq. ft. garage facility and began fleet maintenance services.

2009 - APM became the Southeast Distribution Center for Enginetech engine parts, and later received the 2009 Q4 Warehouse Award from Enginetech for outstanding sales and service. This was also a record breaking year for us in online sales.

Present - APM's newest additions to our parts line-up include becoming the Southeast Distribution Center for Standard Crankshaft Company crank kits, and the North Georgia Sales Rep for Enginetech engine parts.
